Pat askren - Artist Profile

Pat has been drawing since she was a small child. Her grandfather, a Norwegian fisherman, lived in Gig Harbor and often would ask her what she'd  like him to draw. 

He would then sketch small birds, animals, and fish on small bits of paper with a tiny stub of a pencil.  It was only recently that she realized that those small elements still fill her drawings.

"My default imagery is drawing fish!"

Her work is inspired by situations – what stands out to her as beautiful, odd, unusual, or otherwise causes an emotional reaction. Her work often appears narrative and definitely evokes memories of times gone by.

"I primarily work on Arches watercolor paper, using black line or acrylic ink in watercolor techniques. I have also used Caran d’Ache water soluble crayons and would like to do more painting with acrylics."
