Cathie Johnson Watercolors
Cathie Johnson holds a BA in Art/Education from Western Washington University and has been painting in the media of watercolors for over thirty years. While living in Oregon, she was an active juried member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon where she received a variety of awards. She also exhibited and sold work in galleries throughout the Willamette Valley and the Oregon coast.
In late 2009 Cathie retired with her husband and moved to Gig Harbor to return to her roots and sail in Washington. Since moving to the harbor she has become a member of the Peninsula Art League and has been screened in the media of watercolor. She participates in the Peninsula Art Leagues tri-annual member’s shows and she has been juried into the PAL annual open juried show repeatedly where she also has won awards. Through the art league she has participated in several workshops; Ron Ranson, Katherine Gill, Caroline Buchanan, and Jane Blundell as well as Eric Weigardt at the coast. For the last six years she has been one of the officers that sets up member’s shows.
Favorite subjects are maritime including boats; harbors, beaches, docks and hardware. Her style is generally impressionistic and she particularly enjoys combining colors on the paper then refining and glazing over this initial layer of color to create a finished piece. Currently, en plein aire painting has captured her heart and she is often out with friends painting around town with her easel or rowing in her dingy.
She joined the Ebb Tide Gallery approximately six years ago where she exhibits all original watercolors.
